Social Emotional Learning

OAKVIEW ELEMENTARY SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING/SECOND STEP QUICK GUIDE:

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

At Oakview Elementary, the Second Step curriculum is used to teach students skills that strengthen their ability to learn, have empathy, manage emotions, and solve problems. Every day, we model, and reinforce SEL skills through Second Step strategies. You can support this by using the same visual cues & vocabulary that students practice on a daily basis.
